How Chickens Say They're Hungry

I pulled up to the pasture yesterday and this is the sight that met me. I forgot to check the feeders the night before, and this is what a flock of hungry chickens looks like. When a mob of hungry chickens runs toward you en mass, you feel a certain amount of empathy for grasshoppers and the rest of insectkind.

  1. Hi, was it hard to train your dogs not to mess with the birds? Thinking about this, but I didnt know how it would work out.

    Thanks

  2. Whit,

We did have some problems. The dogs messed with the hens even up to this year, but usually it was only playing, although pretty rough at times. LGDs take a long time to stop being mischievous puppies, especially when they're trained by people, not by by their parents. I'll try to write a post about it in a week or so.
