Free Range/Pastured Eggs

We manage a flock of laying hens that spend their days ranging free in our mountainside pasture. The hens eat grasses & clovers, hunt bugs and worms, and treat themselves to dust baths. They are fed laying pellets and whole grain free choice to round out their diet. The hens spend their nights in an open sided coop which gets move twice a year to control disease and help spread the nutrient rich manure.
We overwinter the hens in greenhouses to take them out of the elements, giving the field and the ladies a break. The predator pressure is extreme, and we use a combination of non-violent measures - electric fencing and Great Pyrenees guardian dogs to keep the predators at bay.
